What we Do

All our work is carried out by hand. Consequently we can produce one-off items and small batches to the highest standard of finish. We dont use any machines with copy facilities. (Copy lathes)

All our work is handmade. We can work in any wood, Perspex, MDF, and most modelling materials.

With the right material we can produce items which are accurate to within half a millimetre.

Technical Data

Maximum capacities:

Any turned item can be produced up to a maximum size of 30" diameter (760 mm) by 10 feet (3 metres) Or 72" dia (1800 mm) by 3 feet (900mm)

Fluting or reeding:

Maximum length 8 feet (2400mm)

We can produce Barley Twist and Rope Twist, which can be straight or tapered. (see examples) with a left or right hand thread.

If matching pairs are required:

Maximum length 39.5" (1 metre)

Maximum dia 7" (175mm dia)

Hole boring:

We have facilities to carry out long hole boring, for example, where a steel sleeve is to be inserted into the work. Please phone us for further details. What we dont do At Chipperfields, we specialise in turning so we dont assemble complete constructions. We can easily produce the turned posts for a four poster bed but we wont make up the complete bed. Likewise we can produce the newel posts and spindles for your staircase, to any design but we do not produce the whole staircase. (Risers)

We often work in co-operation with joinery companies. So, if you require a complete piece of furniture with turned components, we would be delighted to make the turned components. We can then recommend several good companies who would assemble it.

Terms of trade

We normally ask for a deposit by cheque and the balance on completion or collection of work.
